BLOOD RUBY

I am thrilled to announce the title of my next book, the second installment in the Sandy Corrigan "Gemstone" series: BLOOD RUBY!

<== Cover reveal coming soon...

What should have been a routine job for a real estate developer explodes into a nightmare when private investigator Sandy Corrigan stumbles on a murdered corpse. The police quickly target someone she loves, and clearing his name becomes her only option.

But this case is no ordinary investigation. To uncover the truth, Sandy must plunge deep into the hidden world of Central Florida’s homeless community—where secrets fester, loyalties are fragile, and every step could be her last.

A gripping sequel to the award-winning Diamond Cut, which was hailed as “fast paced and suspenseful” by #1 NYT bestseller Janet Evanovich.

EARLY PRAISE FOR BLOOD RUBY!

A sympathetic look at the plight of the homeless set against a heart-thumping investigation undertaken by a fearless—often foolhardy—P.I. determined to discover who is murdering the denizens of a homeless camp in the swamps of Central Florida. Gritty, atmospheric, and utterly page-turning, Blood Ruby gallops to a scorching conclusion.
––Bonnie Kistler, Edgar-nominated author of Shell Games
Gripping and propulsive, Cavanagh rips at your heartstrings while shedding light on the complexities of humanity.
––Courtney Psak, author of The Tutor and The Hostess

While this is Book 2 for Sandy Corrigan, the story stands on its own and you do not have to have read Diamond Cut to enjoy Blood Ruby.

Look for it in October from Level Best Books in trade paperback and ebook. As soon as I have information about the availability of an audiobook version, I'll let you know!

For Fun...Writers and Cats!

There is a long history of writers and their cats. Ernest Hemingway was famous for his six-toed cats at his home in Key West. The descendants of those cats, extra toes included, still wander the grounds of his property on the island. He famously said, "One cat leads to another," and it certainly did.

“A cat has absolute emotional honesty. Human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not.”
- Ernest Hemingway

Mark Twain famously owned up to 19 cats at a time and gave them such memorable names as Apollinaris, Beelzebub, Blatherskite, Buffalo Bill, Satan, Sin, Sour Mash, Tammany, Zoroaster, Soapy Sal and Pestilence. He loved cats so much that when he traveled and had to be away from his own cats, he would rent cats for companionship and donate funds for their care afterwards.

“If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat."
- Mark Twain

My Cats...

I can relate to both Papa and Mr. Twain. I can't imagine writing my books without the assistance of my collaborators, Toby (left) and Nebula (right). Previous collaborators have included brothers Wilbur and Orville and before them Ginger.

Recent & Upcoming Appearances!

I had a great time on Saturday 4/11/26 at the Pinecrest Gardens branch for the Miami-Dade Public Libraries Book Club Fair! It was awesome talking about writing, books, and publishing with fellow authors Patrick Kendrick (center) and Neil S. Plakcy (right)!

In July I had a great conversation (and a little wine) with the Avalon Park (FL) Murder Book Club, who read Murderland. It was great fun chatting books and sipping vino. I love meeting with book clubs, either live or virtual, so, if you're interested, please let me know at tbcavana@gmail.com.

In October, I will be attending the giant Bouchercon world mystery conference in Calgary, Alberta! I hope to see you there!
